The FOODline pantry ministry coordinates among 15–20 congregations that have food pantries to provide emergency food to families in immediate need. FOODLine has been in operations since 1994, when requests for food assistance began to overwhelm the HELPLine system. In the past eight years, FOODline has served more than 93,000 men, women, and children in theHuntsville area, and the need continues to grow.
FOODLine acts as a clearing house between the caller in need and the local food pantries. Generally, a family can be helped twice in a 12-month period. The volunteers typically answer calls Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to noon and in the afternoon Monday through Thursday from 1:00 om to 3:00 pm.
FOODLine is made up of volunteers. These volunteers answer the phone calls from people who are in a situation in which they cannot put food on the table. The telephone volunteers coordinate with the volunteers at the various food pantries to help provide a short term solution to food needs.
FOODLine depends on many congregations in our community who run pantries. Without these pantries and volunteers, FOODLine would not be able to operate.
