Through organizations such as FOODLine, the Power of We network offers hands-on responses to urgent problems of hunger, poverty, and homelessness. IMS seeks to address the causes of poverty, hunger, and homelessness.
FOODLine helps locate emergency food for families in immediate need. Phone counselors work with nineteen congregational pantries to send poor families to the closest pantry. FOODLine serves an average of 7,000 people per year.

Responsibilities and qualifications:
- Enjoy people and ready to help those in need
- Good listening skills
- Basic computer skills (familiar with use of mouse, keyboard and printer)
- Confidentiality/willingness to protect clients’ personal information
- Available to volunteer 2-4 mornings or afternoons per month
Additional Food Pantry Needed
FOODLine is seeking a congregation in the 35810 zip code interested in establishing a food pantry to serve the needs in that part of our community.
Basic requirements:
- Convenient access for serving clients efficiently
- Secure, dry storage area with adequate shelving
- Volunteers available to serve clients 3-5 mornings and/or afternoons per week
Smarter Together: Huntsville’s Welcoming Initiative
Two years ago IMS began a journey of exploration to determine how our faith community might respond to the global refugee crisis. In 2016 IMS joined Welcoming America, an Atlanta-based organization whose mission is to encourage and help communities become more compassionate, inclusive, and welcoming to refugees and immigrants as well as their existing diverse populations.

Smarter Together and the Episcopal Diocese of Alabama have a long-term goal of establishing a U.S. State Department-approved refugee resettlement agency in north central Alabama, serving the northern half of the state. We’re prayerfully seeking an individual with the passion, time, energy, and skills needed to lead that significant effort.
